Summarizer

Ladies and Gentlemen,

For this post, you'll be writing a summary of your book - but don't blow the ending! I am open to all sorts of ideas for this summary. One idea is to create a comic to summarize your book. Another idea is to create illustrations from some of the most important parts of the book to use in a voicethread project. You'll need to get a username and password for this project.

Below I'll add one example.

If you like, you  could also choose to write a traditional summary, but then we could simply post a video of you reading your work.

Here are just a couple of other ideas to use for a possible summary project. Today in class, I shared http://edu.glogster.com and http://beta.middlespot.com/index.php#.

There are so many ways to create your summary; if you have better ideas, please share them with the group by commenting below.

One last thing - you may not do this job until you have completed the other posts.

Dear Mr. Moore,

The book I read was called Esperansa Rising and most of the book was about how Esperansa has to start a new chapter in her life. In the being of the book, Esperansa and Esperansa's papa are feeling the land's heartbeat. The land provided Esperansa and Esperansa's family food and help Esperansa's family to have a lot of money. Esperansa, Ramona, and Abulita all wait for papa. Senor Rodriguez brings papa in the wagon.Esperansa, Ramona, and Abulita have to move in to a small cabin because their house got on fire. Tio Luis comes to the cabin. Papa was the only man who could run the household and Ramona said she would marry Tio Luis. Abulita gets her sister to get papers so mama and Esperansa could cross the border. It's a long trip to California and Esperansa has to take care of Isbel's twin brother, Lupe and sister,Pepe while Isbel goes to school.Miguel shows everybody the roses he had plated to repents the flowers in Mexico.

More trouble comes when the dust storm come to California. Isbel, Hostia, Alfonsa, Pepe, Lupe,Esperansa, and Miguel all make it expect mama gets sick and her sickness is called penenmiona. Mama has to go to the hospital and Esperansa vists mama. One day the doctor said the Esperansa can't see her mother for a while so Esperansa's mom does not get any sicker because Esperansa might bring in another sickness. Mama might or might not survive. Esperansa and Miguel let Marta and Marta's mother come in the truck. A few weeks later Marta and the strikers come and start trouble. The strikers put glass inside the crates. They take away the strikers to go back to Mexico. Marta was hiding behind some crates. Esperansa helps Marta go back to her mother because Esperansa feels her pain. Later Miguel steels Esperansa money orders. Miguel tells Alfonsa, Hostia, and Esperansa to meet him at Los Angles. Miguel had brought Abulita and Esperansa couldn't belive it. Mama and Abuilta rejoin and Esperansa, mama, and Abulita all finish the quilt. In the end it was Esperansa's birthday and now she is 13 and Esperansa is happy.

Dear Mr. Moore,

This is my summary of the book, Esperanza Rising. One day, Esperanza goes out with Papa. Papa tells Esperanza to lie down next to him, and to hear the Earth breath, but slowly, she can hear the Earth. Thump, thump, thump. But the next day, Papa does not come home. Esperanza is wondering why he is not coming, because Papa usually comes before sundown. But Miguel, a servant but still Esperanza's friend, and Miguel's dad, Alfsono, return with Papa's dead body. Mama fainted. But then, Tio Luis and Tio Marco, Papa's stepbrothers, start visiting Esperanza's house. At first, it was only a few hours, but it became longer and longer. One day, the lawyer came, and the lawyer says that Ramona, Esperanza's mom, and Esperanza will get income from the grapes. But then, Tio Luis proposes to Ramona and asks if she would marry her. He did that because that if he did marry Ramona, he would win every election because Ramona's husband, who died, was loved by the people and the people also respected Ramona, so Tio Luis knew that he would win any election. But Ramona rejects his proposal. The next day, Esperanza is woken up by Mama, and Ramona tells Esperanza that the house is on fire. They run out, and Abuelita, Esperanza's grandmother, is missing. They run out, and Miguel runs into the house and brings out Abuelita. Abuelita's ankle is broken. So that night, Esperanza and Ramona sleep in Miguel's house. Esperanza and Ramona choose to go to America, with Miguel and his family. Abuelita says that she will come when she is all better. But of course, they need to go in secret. So then, Miguel and Alfsono drive a wagon, and Hortensia, Ramona, and Esperanza lay down in the bottom of the wagon, and Miguel and Alfsonso cover them with guavas. So it looked like a farmer and his son taking a load of fruit to a market. Then, they go on a train, but not in a first class car, like they used to ride in, but in a peasant car. Esperanza had brought her doll from the house in the fire, and a peasant girl wanted to touch it. But Esperanza would not let her so the girl cried. So, Ramona made a yarn doll for the girl. But later, they met a lady named Carmen, and they become good friends. So Carmen gives them chickens, and Ramona gives Carmen beautiful lace carpetas. When they arrive in America, they meet Juan, Josefina, Isabel, Lupe, and Pepe. Lupe and Pepe are babies of Juan and Josfina, and Isabel is a daughter.(continued)

(continued)They go to a camp to work. Esperaza thinks that it is horrible that there are no stalls in the restroom, and no privacy. But Isabel says that they are luckier than most, because she said that in some camps, they had to use ditches to use the restroom. On the way to their camp, Esperanza meets a girl named Marta. Esperanza does not really like her, and Marta is not very kind. When Esperanza came to camp, she was not happy about anything. But Ramona talked to Esperanza and got some sense into her. The next day, Miguel and his dad, Alfsono, told Esperanza and Ramona and the others that they had something to show them. When they went out back, they saw roses. Papa's roses. Esperanza had thought that they were all burnt, but they weren't. Esperanza had to stay in the cabin and take care of the babies, and she fed them plums. She did not know that it was bad for them, but then, she remembered that Hortensia, her servant, used to give her rice water, so, she gave the babies, Pepe, and Lupe. When Isabel came home, she wondered why there were so many diapers. When Esperanza told Isabel that she had given the babies plums, Isabel said that that was a bad thing to do, and was surprised. But Isabel was more surprised when she found out Esperanza gave the babies rice water, which was exactly the right thing to do. But then, Ramona, Esperanza's mom, became sick. Esperanza never left her side and helped her. Soon, Ramona had to go to the hospital. The nurses only let Esperanza stay a few minutes. But now, Esperanza started to work, to try to bring Abuelita to America. Esperanza and Miguel went to a store, and saw Marta on the way. They gave them a lift. They take Marta to her home, and they actually have no home, because they are strikers. They see a poor family, and Esperanza gives them the piniata she was about to give Ramona, and also gives them some beans. While Esperanza was working, they saw the strikers. They had a lot of tricks up their sleeves to make the workers go on their side. They used snakes to slow them down, and threw rocks at them. But then, Esperanza sees Marta, and she is about to tell, but she doesn't. Marta is grateful. This my summary of half of the book, and you will have to read yourself to find the ending!

Dear Mr. Moore,

I Am reading a book called ''Esperanza Rising''. It mostly talks about a girl named Esperanza and about all her struggles. At the begging of the book ''Esperanza Rising'' it mostly talks about how Esperanza and her dad and how they do things together. It talks about how her father and Esperanzaa go pick from the grapevines. Also her father tells Esperanza that if she is quiet enough she could listen to the Earth's heart beat. Then the book gets action. Papa hasn't came back from work and mama and Esperanza start to get real worried. They send out people to look for him and they come back with bad new. Papa is dead! He was killed by bandents. Esperanza was shocked and so was mama. Esperanza dram about her birth day that was coming up the next day but now everything was ruined. Also sh couldn't feel much better with tio Luis trying to act like papa and powerful. They tried to go to sleep. When Esperanza didn't even know it her mom was shaking her telling her to wake up cause her house was on fire. Esperanza and her mom left the house but Esperanza brought with her a doll that papa was going to give her before he died. They were outside and they saw tio Luis coming in his horse. He said that he was very sorry and told Esperanza's mom if she would marry him. He only wanted a lot of votes cause Esperanza's mom said never. Then he said,'' fine then live in your maids little house, unless something happens to that to.'' Esperanza's mom said yes to his proposal because she knew it would be better for Esperanza.

Now it felt like everything bad was happening to Esperanza. But Esperanza's mom knew what she was doing. They made a plan to escape tio Luis. They escaped before she married him and they were on there way to Californa. They have arrived and there were going to have to work at a migrant plantation to earn money. Grandma had to stay because she had broken her ankle and she was also going to try to get there money back from tio Luis. Esperanza wasn't used to working since she used to have servants do everything for her. When Esperanza thought thing would stay the same things got even harder. Mama was sick and she was in the middle of life or death. Esperanza had to work twice as hard to pay for the medication of mama. Also Esperanza can't see her mom for like months because the doctor told her so. She only really has her friends Miguel and Isabel to really talk to. Miguel used to be Esperanza's servant but he is also a good friend to her. Miguel actually went to go get Esperanza's grandma just for Esperanza! He is a great friend. Esperanza has to work her way through all that is ahead of her.
